Awendaw and McClellanville

Awendaw
The Town of Awendaw, established in 1992 and home to 1,200 residents, sits nestled along the eastern edge of the Francis Marion National Forest and the western edge of the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge, located approximately 18 miles north of Charleston. This unique setting offers abundant outdoor experiences for its residents and visitors. Awendaw is home to several education-oriented entities including the Sewee Visitor and Environmental Education Center, Center for Birds of Prey/Avian Conservation and the Bull Island Ferry.

McClellanville
Life moves slowly in McClellanville, South Carolina. Less than an hour’s drive separates this marshfront community from Charleston to the south and Georgetown to the north. McClellanville began as a coastal retreat for rice and indigo planters in the mid-1800s and later evolved into a fishing town. Fishing still anchors the local economy.
